Don Whitley Scientific is excited to hear that our distributor, LASEC® recently installed a Whitley A35 Anaerobic Workstation at the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA). The A35 Workstation was customised to have an additional internal power socket and is the first Whitley Workstation that the team have used. We are fortunate to have received a testimonial from Andile Mtshali, Junior Scientist at CAPRISA. He shared an insight into how they used the workstation...
Procedures performed in the A35 included:
- Isolation of bacteria from clinical specimens / samples
- Culture of existing bacteria (not directly from samples)
- Identification of bacteria (for example, biochemical tests)
- Antimicrobial susceptibility testing
- Bacterial growth kinetics using Cerillo plate reader
- Lactic acid quantification from Lactobacillus species
- Sample preparation for FISH/PMA assays
Andile expressed that, by choosing a Whitley Workstation, time consuming and less efficient procedures were streamlined, with the monitoring system and internal plug socket being especially advantageous.
We are happy to contribute to the research at CAPRISA and hope that this will be the first of many encounters with their team! For more information on our anaerobic workstations, please see the products below or contact us at sales@dwscientific.co.uk
